What a wonderful day spent with Discover Newmarket – The Royal Tour. I enjoyed every minute, it was an experience of a lifetime in my book. Meeting the esteemed Mr. Haggas and enjoying a personal tour of his operation and seeing the entire property was so educational. I especially enjoyed his talk about what you will find on his website, “horse comes first.” It was incredible to have such a personal inside view of how the world of Champion horseracing operates on a daily basis. https://www.somerville-lodge.co.uk/horse-comes-first-campaign
Next, we went to the Bedford Lodge and had a wonderful breakfast and then off to the National Stud to see the stallions and learn from the esteemed Mr. Grimwade all about the operation there and how they are able to produce for many generations some of the finest purebred Thoroughbred racing horse stock in the world. Joe Grimwade was wonderful, we had a nice chat at the end, and I was able to tell him what I was doing, earning a 2nd master’s degree with my topic about the Royal Mews and then accepted into the Ph.D. program, topic – Queen Victoria’s Stud.
