The Stanley family, one of the families that truly made Britain great. The Countess of Derby
I’m proud to say that the Stanley’s have one of the most famous and successful histories in the sport of horseracing. The origins of the great Epsom Derby are directly related to the 12th Earl of Derby. The Countess of Derby
The History of the Stanley Family, the Earls of Derby, https://thecountessofderby.com/the-earls-of-derby is a magnificent history, focused specifically on the Earls of Derby, and their accomplishments over the centuries.
On Saturday 19 July, I was honoured by the Earl of Derby who invited me to enjoy lunch while at the same time, conducting an interview with him, to be included in my PhD thesis. The account he gave of his family history/lineage exceeds anything I can possibly convey here. This format is basically to share the good news and some facts about our relationship.
My recommendation is to view the exquisitely done documentary, The Stanley Family – A History of Politics and Patronage, Presented by Countess of Derby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD52o8GmIHc which the 19th Earl shared with me, in depth in our interview.
As a PhD Candidate at the University of Strathclyde, enrolled in History with Genealogical Studies and a topic title: A Study of Queen Victoria’s Royal Stud in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland: Roles, qualifications, a demographic and genealogical study of an industry, and the people involved (1837-1901). I have chosen to conduct pertinent interviews, incorporating them throughout the thesis as first-person, primary resources.
The 19th Earl of Derby, who I also recently discovered is a cousin of mine, agreed to be my 5th interview, which after several years of research, was especially joyful news when having become aware of the incredible centuries old, coalescence of our family history and lineage.

Our primary genealogical beginnings are historically established during the War of the Roses with both the 19th Earl of Derby, the Countess of Derby, myself and the 17th Earl of Huntingdon and his sister, Lady Emma Balding all related to the key participants and consequently, each other.
